Here at Homes we are suckers for sweets………..
Did you know that the month of June is celebrated by the National Confectioners Association (NCA) to mark over 100 years of candy and sweet production.
This month is not just about celebrating our love of sweet things, dating back over a hundred years, but is also the confectionery business’s way of raising awareness of the economic contribution that the industry makes.
During lockdown in 2020, it turns out we all became more impulsive when it came to buying and snacking on confectionery and sales rose by 23%.
The confectionery industry in the UK directly employees around 50,000 people. Indirectly, for every job within sweet production another seven jobs are created across related companies. UK consumers now spend around £12.5 billion on their favourite sweet snacks.
This awareness month is also important for the confectioners across the world to educate consumers about being responsible when indulging in sweet treats.
The NCA has launched the ‘Always a Treat’ campaign, in addition to offering guidance on sugar consumption, it gives advice and guidelines about incorporating sweet treats as part of a sensible balanced lifestyle.
