In 2020, for the first time ever, the Old Kitchen Tearoom will be opening its doors all year round, even when the house is closed!

To celebrate this, Chawton House is offering FREE garden entry to all visitors between 1st January and 15th February 2020. Come and take advantage of the fresh air and beautiful South Downs views before having a well-earned cuppa.

Established 46 years ago in Petersfield’s Festival Hall, the quality of this fair has steadily raised the bar, whilst keeping its feet firmly on the ground.
It is Friendly, Unpretentious but very High Quality!

Expect to see traditional genuine items from furniture to jewellery, paintings to ceramics, silver, glass & sculpture.
Also a very few modern pieces all unique and hand-made. Prices from £25, to perhaps the occasional £25,000 piece.
Petersfield Antiques Fair offers both exhibitors and visitors a welcoming friendly atmosphere, where like-minded dealers, collectors and anyone else interested can discuss antiques and enjoy doing business together.

Kendal Mountain Film Festival

To celebrate National Storytelling Week the Gilbert White team have organised a storytelling session with well know local story teller ‘DD’.
The sessions will also include interactive traditional tales and a chance to make woodland animal masks.

Tickets are £8 per child, which includes one free accompanying adult.

A regular monthly double-market event in Alton.
Enjoy the great taste of Hampshire, savour the delights of truly local food reared, grown, baked, caught and brewed in Hampshire. Home reared meats including buffalo and game, eggs, cheese, milk, ice cream, wine, beer, apple juice, bread, cakes, bakes, pickles, chutney’s, preserves, fruits and vegetables, wool & coppice goods. Plus a broad choice of high quality locally crafted products on offer from all around the district, hosted by Alton Lions Club.

At Chawton House on Sunday 16th – visit the gardens to enjoy the carpet of snowdrops on the south lawn and the wilderness area. Explore the rest of the grounds and enjoy a special ‘Snowdrop’ themed menu on the Old Kitchen Tearoom.

At Gilbert White House on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th enjoy the atmosphere and walk with Snowdrops in this most beautiful of our local gardens created by the 18th Century naturalist Gilbert White.

This February half term, the team at Butser Ancient farm invite you to explore ancient worlds. Each weekday step back in time and learn ancient skills with hands-on demonstrations. Take part in a themed trail around the ancient buildings and warm yourself with a hot chocolate from our shop around a roaring fire.

Enjoy Alton’s traditional Pancake Race during half-term week. Registration will open at 10:30am on the day in Alton’s Public Gardens, with the first races starting at 11:30am. Fancy dress is encouraged, adding to the frivolity of this hugely fun Alton event with a prize for the best dressed participant! Plus delicious complimentary hot pancakes served to all, courtesy of the ‘Greater Alton Project Churches’ pancake station.

Pancake Race categories are:
Nutella – preschool children
Lemon & Sugar – ages 4-7years
Milk – ages 8-11years
Flour – ages 12-16years
Eggs – relay race for teams of up to 8 people

HALF TERM FAMILY FUN, Queen Elizabeth Country Park

Miss Austen ‘Book Launch

There’’s so much to do at the Rural Life Living Museum on Activity Thursdays. Set in 10cres, it has 30 buildings housing over 40,000 interesting artefacts. Perhaps have a go at milking Daisy the Cow, make and launch a rocket or have a ride on the train. Little ones can often explore our child sized doll’s house and everyone can join in with arts and crafts. Sometimes you can even help out at the Victorian Laundry or assist the Home Guard… fun for all the family during the holidays.

Activity Thursday, Rural Life Centre

Chawton House is opening the garden for a special viewing of the snowdrops, as part of the National Gardens Scheme, an inspiring programme that organises the opening of outstanding gardens around the country to raise funds for charity. Entry to the garden will be £5 (children under 16 go free) and all funds will go to a range of beneficiaries selected by NGS including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie among others. A range of welcome ‘winter warmers’ will be available in the tearoom.

Petersfield Vintage Antiques & Militaria Fair

A day of inspirational talks, music and meditation, with speakers including journalist, broadcaster and best-selling author Elizabeth Day. The audience can interact with eminent speakers during Q&A sessions following talks by lucid dream expert Charlie Morley, nutritionist Miguel Toribio-Mateas and strength coach and nutritionist Gus Olds. Leading International Criminal Barrister and meditation teacher. Gillian Higgins, will compère the event and a vegetarian lunch will be provided. In the beautiful setting of Cowdray House, the Estate’s Wellness Centre, Cowdray Hall, located at the heart of the 16,500 acre Estate, creates the perfect setting for a tranquil day of Wellbeing.

Two sessions during the day of drinks, music and food. Lots of local brewery beer, as well as some from further afield! Plus … the AWESOME KEG BAR with a selection of 8 taps of truly fabulous brews! As always, there will be fantastic water-cooled Real Ale and Cider from all across the region, backed up with quality live music and fantastic hot food.
